L’eclisse (1962), directed by Michelangelo Antonioni

L’eclisse was chosen by artist Annja Krautgasser to be screened as an adjunct to ‘Closeness’, an exhibition of her work at E:vent Gallery.

Absence is key to Antonioni’s vision, which is purely cinematic, not narrative. It’s the non-event that ‘fills’ his films, contextualised in a world of modernist signs that Antonioni magically rescues from objectivity into pure subjectivity.
