Pamelia Kurstin and guests

Wednesday 27 September 2006, 7.00pm until 10.00pm

E:ventGallery, 96 Teesdale Street, London E2 6PU

Internationally renowned theremin player Pamelia Kurstin has retrieved this wonderful and strange instrument from the hands of sci-fi film makers and made it her own.  Her remarkable improvisations have led to collaborations with David Byrne, Foetus, Cibo Matto, Bela Fleck, Matthew Sweet, various members of Polar Bear, Liam Noble, Otto Lechner, Barbez and many more. She’s played everywhere from CBGB’s to the Royal Festival Hall.  Bob Moog himself regarded her as the best theremin player he’d seen.

Artist and designer Matt Wade has created a unique responsive installation especially for Kurstins performance at E:vent. Using a programming language called Processing, Wade transforms the sounds of the theremin into delicate abstract drawings that respond to the music.
